Post War Boom

Summary: In this ad, there is a woman and a man who look to be the parents of the young boy. All three of them are enjoying the Coca-Cola Beverage under an umbrella that is the same color as the Coca-Cola logo. The words underneath read, "Almost everyone appreciates the best." "Almost Everyone," is regarding the favorable family lifestyle of the country at the time.

Logos: Underneath the prosperous family illustration, the company claims to sell fifty million a day; which is forty three million more sold a day than the ad in the 1920’s. This fact would appeal to logos. If fifty million are sold a day, it must be better than any other beverage. Ethos: The headlines at the bottom state, “Almost everyone appreciates the best,” giving the credibility. With this, the company is using the population who appreciates the best, which is coke drinkers, to support the ad.  With the large growth of families, it would be logical to assume that most famlies are what gives credit to the large growth of beverage sales.

Pathos: This ad is also appealing to emotion through the happiness the coke is brining to the family, similarly with the two previous ads. Even though the parent’s attention is directed out of the image, the coke is showing an enhancement of their time spent together.

Time Period: 1955; Post War Boom

The decade after World War II was known as the “Postwar Boom” due to the booming economy and suburb boom. This generation was also known as the ‘baby boomers’ because parents had confidence in the American future to be prosperous after the war so they had many children.   This ad fits in the decade it was created in because the clothing they wear and happiness they express correspond to the prosperous condition the country was in. The mother is wearing nice jewelry and all three of them are clothed well, which suggests that families across the country really were benefiting from the booming economy.

Demograhic: Families

Coca-Cola intended to reach families with this advertisment because many people at the time had large families due to the flourishing economy. The ad focuses on a family enjoying the beverage, which shows that the drink is meant for a family to gather around and enjoy.
